An integrated system for washing and hygiene monitoring

Healthcare facilities face increasing demands to ensure safe, efficient, and validated washing procedures. As washing is the first and most critical step in the reprocessing workflow, directly impacting the effectiveness of subsequent sterilization, proper control and verification of this stage are essential. Terragene offers an integrated solution for washing and hygiene monitoring that covers the entire washing process, from qualitative and quantitative indicators to advanced automated readers.

These solutions enable users not only to monitor washing cycles, but also to verify cleaning outcomes through objective hygiene monitoring of processed items. By integrating solutions such as Splat, Pro1 Micro, and MiniPro, CSSD can achieve a higher level of excellence in cleaning and hygiene control, strengthening process reliability, traceability, and compliance with international standards.

Splat: test soil for monitoring cleaning processes

Splat is a family of test soil indicators consisting of a specially formulated ink that simulates the organic residues that should be removed from items during the washing process. Splat indicators are highly versatile: depending on the holder used, they can be used for monitoring automatic washer-disinfectors as well as ultrasonic washers. The indicator is processed either together with the load or in the empty chamber, as it is suitable for routine monitoring of cleaning processes and for assessing the performance of the washing equipment. A fully acceptable result is achieved when the ink is completely removed from the strip, indicating effective cleaning.

Pro1 Micro – Protein Quantification System for hygiene monitoring

Even though multiple products are available on the market for assessing hygiene, most of them provide only qualitative results. However, international standards such as ISO 15883 and HTM 01-01 recommend the use of quantitative systems for measuring residual proteins after the cleaning process.
Terragene has developed the only protein quantification system currently available on the market, eliminating the subjectivity associated with qualitative, color-based interpretation. The system is presented in a practical pen format with an integrated swab containing a reactive solution that specifically reacts with residual proteins, and can be incubated and read by the proper autoreader, providing an exact measurement.
Furthermore, Terragene’s innovation does not end here: the technology behind Pro1 Micro has also been applied to the development of Pro1 ENDO, specifically designed for hygiene monitoring in endoscopes and other cannulated instruments, thereby enhancing safety in the reprocessing of the most complex medical devices.
The system offers a robust, user-friendly solution for quantitative hygiene verification, in alignment with international standards.

MiniPro Auto-reader

Although Terragene’s biological indicator autoreaders are compatible with both Pro1 Micro and Pro1 ENDO, Terragene has also developed a dedicated autoreader for these devices: MiniPro. MiniPro enables incubation and quantification in just 4 minutes, supporting a smooth and efficient CSSD workflow while ensuring reliable and safe results.
Moreover, when used in combination with Bionova Q Traceability software, Terragene’s washing and hygiene monitoring solutions provide complete traceability of the entire monitoring process. Bionova Q is compatible not only with Pro1 Micro and Pro1 ENDO, but also with the full range of Terragene solutions for washing and hygiene monitoring, including Splat. The optimal analysis system is achieved by integrating Terragene indicators with MiniPro and Bionova Q software, enabling result reading, automated data generation, continuous monitoring, and comprehensive report generation
