From September 23 to 25, 2026, Asunción, Paraguay, hosted the XXII Paraguayan Congress of Surgery, organized by the Paraguayan Society of Surgery (SOPACI). Held at the Centro de Eventos Paseo La Galería, the congress brought together healthcare professionals and specialists for three days of scientific exchange, continuing education, and discussion around advances in modern surgery and healthcare.
Terragene participated in the event alongside its partner Bioerix, strengthening its presence among healthcare professionals in Paraguay and contributing to discussions around sterilization, infection prevention, and the technologies supporting safer healthcare processes.
Sterilization Process Control: Chemical and Biological Indicators
As part of the scientific program, Dr. Juan Díaz, Terragene Clinical Educator, delivered the presentation “Quality Control of Sterilization Processes: Chemical and Biological Indicators” on September 24 in the session Barriers, Sterility and Infection Prevention.
The presentation focused on the role of chemical and biological indicators in the monitoring and validation of sterilization processes, highlighting the importance of selecting, applying, and interpreting indicators correctly according to the requirements of each process.

As sterilization workflows become increasingly focused on measurable outcomes, effective monitoring plays an essential role in providing evidence of process performance and supporting infection prevention strategies.
From Monitoring to Digital Traceability
During the presentation, Terragene also showcased how sterilization monitoring is evolving through the integration of digital technologies and traceability tools.
The presentation highlighted Bionova® Q, Terragene’s digital ecosystem for sterilization monitoring, as part of a more connected approach to quality control. The workflow presented demonstrated how monitoring information can move from the physical indicator to digital records, helping central sterilization departments organize and access process data.
One of the examples presented showed the use of AI-assisted interpretation of chemical indicators: the indicator can be scanned using a mobile device, automatically interpreted, and then recorded within Bionova® Q, with the corresponding report made available digitally.
This approach connects monitoring, interpretation, and documentation within a single workflow, supporting greater efficiency and traceability in sterilization processes.

New Technologies for Sterilization Monitoring
The presentation also addressed the evolution of chemical and biological indicator technologies, emphasizing how new solutions can contribute to faster results, more consistent interpretation, and improved access to process data.
For healthcare facilities, these developments are particularly relevant as sterilization departments seek to combine reliable process monitoring with digital tools that simplify documentation and support continuous quality control.
By bringing together indicators, electronic devices, and digital traceability, Terragene continues to develop technologies designed to support healthcare professionals throughout the sterilization workflow.
Connecting Innovation and Infection Prevention
Terragene’s participation in the XXII Paraguayan Congress of Surgery reflects the importance of scientific exchange in advancing infection prevention practices.
Events such as this congress provide an opportunity to share knowledge directly with healthcare professionals, understand the challenges faced by sterilization departments, and discuss how emerging technologies can respond to increasingly demanding quality and traceability requirements.
For Terragene, working alongside local partners such as Bioerix is also an important part of bringing these technologies closer to healthcare professionals in Paraguay and across the region.
The XXII Paraguayan Congress of Surgery provided a valuable setting for discussing how chemical and biological indicators, digital traceability, and AI-assisted technologies can contribute to more connected and measurable sterilization monitoring workflows.
Terragene thanks Bioerix, the Paraguayan Society of Surgery, the organizing committee, and all the healthcare professionals who took part in the event for the opportunity to share knowledge and continue building solutions that contribute to better infection prevention.
