Description

KBT400 / Spore Strips Biological Indicator Kit for Liquid Peracetic Acid High Level Disinfection processes. Geobacillus stearothermophilus (ATCC® 7953) 10^6 spores per strip. MC1020-2 Culture Medium (2ml each ). 100 BIs + 100 MC 1020-2.

The envelope containing Bionova® BT400 spore strip is specifically designed to control liquid Peracetic Acid high level disinfection processes. Each Bionova® envelope contains a polyethylene fibers strip soaked with Geobacillus stearothermophilus ATCC® 7953 spore population. Spore strips should be incubated in MC1020-2 Bionova® growth medium tube or other medium appropriate for Geobacillus stearothermophilus ATCC® 7953 growth.

If disinfection process was not successful, MC1020-2 growth medium will turn to yellow after 24-hour incubation at (60 ± 2) ºC, thus indicating the existence of living Geobacillus stearothermophilus spores in spore strips. If disinfection process was effective, MC1020-2 growth indicating medium will remain its original color after 24-hour incubation at (60 ± 2) ºC.

Directions for use

1. With the reusable silicone strip provided along with the product, locate the envelope with spore strip inside the High Disinfection equipment, accompanying the load to be disinfected with PAA.

WARNING: The indicator must be completely submerged in the washing solution to work properly.

2. Disinfect as usual.

3. After the high disinfection process has finished, remove Bionova® spore strip for processing and incubation.

4. Open the envelope at the end marked with “PEEL OFF” very carefully under sterile conditions (eg. laminar flow cabinet) and transfer the spore strip using a sterile clamp to MC1020-2 growth medium tube, or any other appropriate growth medium.

IMPORTANT: Use latex gloves and mask when transferring spore strips from the envelope to the growth medium tube. WARNING: Avoid spore strip contact with any kind of surface including the outer part of growth medium tube and Bionova® envelope.

IMPORTANT: Use a spore strip which has not been subjected to disinfection process as a positive control each time a processed strip is incubated. Both, processed spore strip and the strip used as positive control must belong to the same batch. Positive control guarantees that the incubation was carried out under appropriate conditions.

5. Incubate processed spore strips along with the strip used as positive control during a maximum of 24 hours at (60 ± 2) ºC. It is advisable to make observations every 10 hours. growth medium indicator colour turning to yellow means a failure in disinfection process.

If after 24 hours no colour change is visible on MC1020-2 growth medium, the result is negative (i.e. the disinfection process was successful). MC1020-2 growth medium used for incubating the spores strips which have not been disinfected (positive control) should turn to yellow in order for the results to be valid.
