Instructions for use

1. Run a warm-up cycle to properly heat the sterilizer.

2. Place the Bowie-Dick Test Pack horizontally with the label facing up in an empty vacuum assisted sterilizer chamber, in the bottom/front of the sterilizer rack and over the drain. The Test Pack should read "THIS SIDE UP" when placed correctly.

3. Run the sterilizer cycle for 3.5 min. - 134 ºC / 4 min. - 132 °C.

4. Remove the test pack from sterilizer and allow it to cool down. Check color change of type 1 indicator on the label.

5. Unwrapped the pack and remove the test and warning sheets. Check them for color change and record the results.

Chemdye® Bowie & Dick Test Card has been designed to monitor the effectiveness of air removal in vacuum-assisted steam sterilizers operating at 134 ºC, 3.5 minutes / 132 °C, 4 minutes.

Chemdye® Bowie & Dick Test Card should be used daily, after a sterilizer is installed or relocated, after malfunction, sterilization process failures and any major repairs of the sterilizer. Chemdye® Bowie & Dick Test Card consists of a Type 2, metals free chemical indicator. Cycle information can be recorded on the back of the indicator, thus allowing a permanent record of the process.

Chemical indicator changes from purple to green when processed. An heterogeneous color change, i.e the presence of purple color, indicates presence of an air pocket during the sterilization cycle, thus indicating sterilizer malfunction.

Chemdye® Bowie & Dick Test Card must be used daily, before the first sterilization cycle of the first load. A shortened cycle (i.e., a cycle omitting the post vacuum drying phase) should be run first to properly heat up the sterilizer.

Instructions for use

1. Insert the Chemdye® Bowie & Dick Test Card in a Chemdye® holder or a similar suitable one with the chemical indicator side facing up. Place it in horizontal position on the bottom rack, near the drain of the empty sterilizer.

2. Run the cycle for no longer than 3.5 min. - 134 ºC / 4 min. - 132 ºC. Long drying phases may cause the indicator to turn to other uniform shades of green.

3. After the cycle is over, remove and examine the chemical indicator.

4. Introduce data indicated at the back of the card and keep it as a permanent record.

NOTE: Air removal or steam quality and penetration problems are evidenced as a heterogeneous color change of the chemical indicator, with lighter regions in the center of the sheet.

Directions for use

1. Perform the Bowie & Dick test daily and after sterilizer repair.

2. Prepare a test pack of absorbent surgical towels. The towels should be freshly laundered, but not ironed. The package should be conditioned in accordance with technical guidelines or in a way that its dimensions are at least 230 mm x 300 mm each side and 250-280 mm height.

3. Place a single Chemdye® BDA4 Bowie & Dick Test Sheet in the centre of the test pack.

4. By using self-adhesive tape, prepare a fabric standard package, without tightening excessively.

5. Place the test pack horizontally in the lower shelf of an empty vacuum assisted steam sterilizer.

6. Run the Bowie & Dick cycle for 3.5 min. €“ 134ºC / 4 min. €“ 132ºC.

7. After completion of the cycle, remove the Chemdye® BDA4 Bowie & Dick Test Sheet and examine:
